PROMPT # 265

It was the one thing he coveted the most. I cannot stand that I let him get the one thing I promised myself I would never give up and that was everything. Not only am I dissapointed about this I am furious that I not only let him I practically shoved it at him to steal. I wish I never had met this boy but at the same time I wish I did. Making up my mind is no longer something I can do very well like I used to... just another thing he has taken. Our relationship started off so well with both of us at the same spot, but then everything just tripped and crashed down the steepness of mt.everest. I mean I believed we cared for each other but our worlds just could not mix without major stress, hurt, and abuse. I'm not going to sit here and say I did nothing to cause our break up but honestly how could I love someone who told me to go jump off a bridge and hopes my brains that splatter won't get on his white shirt. On a thursday I decided the only way for us to one day be okay with each other was total cut off from any type of communication whatsoever. I gave him a text that said," We're done. I don't want to see you again. We can't be friends. Don't ever text or call me again." Seriously this hurt me so much to say this because I had been attatched to him for so long that I felt like I just cut off my arm or something. Being single is now making me happy but I still have those moments where I sit there all alone and think about him. I still need to get back the one thing he coveted the most... my soul.

Street Performance

Here is my favorite part of it since its so long :)

Moving on the waves of sound and swaying back and forth Ella made the music come alive. Soon both Dylan’s and Ella’s instrument cases were filling up with green cash and silver change. With her fingers vibrating she made a rocking sound and the crowd cheered loudly. Shifting up into third position she countered Dylan’s melody with her own solo. Dylan rolled his eyes at her but smiled and kept on strumming while keeping his hands moving across the metal strings. When the song neared the end Ella jumped onto the concrete ledge and sat just beside Dylan as they ended in unison. Silence filled the park and then was cut down by the millions of palms crashing together and whistles scaring the pigeons.

Random

deep black oceans
cheap green swirled smooth stones
sea gulls caw with the force of distance
squishy grains of sand
gusts of wind blow down the deserted walkway
wood creaks beneath the tired feet of thousands
nails protrude through the rotting wood
the sky sings the tune of rain
lightning is angrily clashing with the bleak clouds
i miss my second home.

It is Real

The smoldering orange fire
flashes through my hazy smoke filled mind
spreading reflections like an atomic bomb
taking everything leaving
cold unseeing eyes of cinder.

Its always me.

Just stop for a second of time
stay in your footprints that wear down
the cold white ground
and watch it all unfold...

rushing at you all at once

pushing you in separate directions

yet I continue to stand

despite my nebulous view of life.

People always say getting over it is
the most unmerciful process
so I listen until their voices become whispers
that fill my consciousness when i am alone;
alone.
its a master piece of gray as
it becomes that one last thought before
darkness consumes life to give
your soul to one of two places.

Yet I let the flame lick at my bones
playing games with my skin
as it slowly reveals forgotten time

misplaced words.

Look towards numbness
my mind claws at my skull
I can't stay
this "thing" has become a sick monster
one that stops me from leaving
the room only
to trap me with sharp chain reactions of lies...
You never meant it did you.

signs blur

breathtakingly fast
cars swerve and the lights blend into ashes
of three bright colors.

I just couldn't let my soul go
gripping for sanity
I let my head slip down the seat
into my hands,
I allow words to fade
keeping memories close.

Give it all back-

dragging my weary self home

fuzzy acoustic music is the last thing I hear

before I spread myself out
on a soft flat mattress
twining the covers over my limbs.

Mellifluous silence,

for a minor instant body severs from mind.

No Breathing Underwater

V.2 of my A time my world changed poem...

Filling up my mind
like an overflowing bathtub
the faucet won’t turn off
and the water just keeps
on and on raining.
Waves crash and wash over the tiles and floor,
Breathe in;
tear ducts empty tears that had been gathering for a long time
all my worries, fears, and problems
rush my mind.
Hearing the words just pauses
everything around me
letting the world go on
but sticks me in the past.
I just wish her voice
ringing in my eardrums didn’t make me wish
things could be different about love.
Crescendo into a fit of notes
blending together fast and even faster…
rivers of water swamping my makeup all over the white sheet-
I close my eyes
picturing myself moving away,
picking up my feet and never stopping
then my eyes open
and I look up.
Everything dies down
and gets really silent and even quieter
playing this part
means the end is nearing.
Thinking to myself that this song gives me my sign
that large
STOP
in the path to Death.
Staring straight ahead
never deviating from my answer
that answer is the key;
I have to become…
Just

me.

Friday Night Disaster

Okay so i've been having a lot of dreams lately at least one a night that I can remember. I like writing them down though because it gives me ideas for future writings, etc. Whats really weird is my dreams are starting to relate to topics from my life like the one i'm about to write about. This dream is about getting lost, going to college, spring break vacations, people I know, high school, and being always late. All of those topics were on my mind this week and are all eerily in the same dream I had last night.
My dream is titled---> Late for Life

In the beginning of the dream I am sitting on the beach in Florida and i'm getting tan on the sun. My mom walks up to me and we start talking about college and life in general. Just like in real life I block her off on the subject of college because I don't know where I want to go or what I want to do. College is frightning for me. Then the scene changes and i'm on a beach in Minnesota and its a couple of days into the new school year where I should be in college but i'm on the beach. I decide to drive home and I encounter my sister. She's putting on her makeup and saying," Ready to go?" And in my mind i'm thinking go where? Then I instantly know that i'm enrolled in St. Cloud State University (in real life I was accepted there and don' t know if i'm going). I tell her, " Oh my god I have to go back to school a week late and I don't know how to make up any of my classes. I don't know what my classes even are! I have to move my stuff into an apartment that I don't even know how to get to, or where it is." Katie says, " Well i'm leaving in like 30 min. And you better be ready." So I go into my room and the scene falshes to another day. This time i'm late again but for high school. Prom is coming up and Mrs. Kronzer is taking pictures by the stairs with girls in prom dresses. I run in the school 20 min. late for first hour and I realize I have no tardies left to use. On my way up the stairs closest to house 2 I stop and have to go through at least 20 girls in hideous prom dresses. I comment on one girls and say, "I love your dress its so pretty." Then all the rest of the girls want my opinions on their dresses. One had like poofy sleeves and a big trail on the dress, another was brown and sparkly, strapless, with poofs all over it. Jenni Rice shouts at me YOU LIKE MY DRESS? And I say, " I'm late! Yeah its really cute! " I run to my house office and the ladies there shake their heads at me and hand me a pass. At this point I wake up from my dream extremely parched haha.

K my dreams are REALLY trying to tell me something now...

A Time My World Changed

Inspired by the song Drowned World/ Substitute for Love by Madonna.

Filling up my mind like an overflowing bathtub
the faucet won't turn off and the water just keeps
on and on raining, waves wash over the tiles and the floor.
Breathe in; tear ducts empty tears that had been gathering for a long time,
All my worries, fears, and problems rush my mind
hearing the words just pauses everything around me
letting the world go on but sticks me in the past.
I just wish her voice caressing my ears didn't make me wish
things could be different about love.
Crecendo into a fit of notes blending together fast and even faster
Rivers of water swamping my makeup over the white sheet
I close my eyes and picture myself just moving away,
picking up my feet and never stopping.
Then my eyes open and I look up...
Everything just sort of gets really silent and even quieter,
the last musical waves that look like a drop of water falling into a stream
playing this part means the end is nearing,
Thinking to myself that this song gives me my sign
that large stop in the path to death.
Staring straight ahead never deviating from my answer,
that answer is the key
I have to become...
Just
me.

My Crazy Dream

Okay so I feel like writing about my crazy dream I had at like 2 a.m. last night. I'm titling it "Lost and Found."--->I know deep right.

I was in my Gold Honda driving towards my boyfriend Dylan's house and suddenly I had to leave. I drove around his neighborhood but I somehow forgot my way. The weather was like pouring snow and it was dark so I was getting worried. Being stupid in my dream I didn't think to call anyone and ask for directions so I just kept searching for the roads that I knew. The neighborhood started turning into a maze with turns and dead ends. I finally got worried enough that I got out of the car and still being stupid forgot to lock it AND left it on. Then, running down the roads (I can see myself running down the roads in like a third person perspective) and looking for a sign, any sign that would lead me back home. After awhile of searching I gave up and walked slowly back to my car. Suddenly my car became my friend Nicole's car (Green Truck) and two guys were sitting in the front seat and passenger seat. Gor the millionth time of stupidness I decided to just open the drivers side door and yell at them to leave. Both of the men looked at me and then my car turned back into the gold honda or MY real car. One of the guys was wearing a orange leather jacket and a black hat, the other was really skinny and mean looking. My sister's purse for some reason was mine and they were going to get out of the car but take the purse. I said, "Give it back!" They gave me the purse back and emptied their pockets which held my i.d. and money and my sister's SCSU i.d. The guy with the leather jacket left but the other skinnier guy wanted me to take him to the gas station. So I took him to the gas station and my dream ended after he yelled at me and I pushed him out of the car.

WOW. My dreams lately have been like that really, really weird lately. A couple of days ago I had a dream about plankton from spongebob crying as I tried to find him a prom dress. haha. I think its a combination of what i'm thinking, what I did that day, what i've done, what others i've seen have done, random thoughts, and my fears.
Anyways i'm bored in my futuristics class and I felt like writing about this so yeahhhhh...

Rythm of my present

My life was like a dream and I slept my existance away
People all around blurred out of the flourencent lighting
I was looking for anything to turn it upside down
Walking through life with chains of the past

Suddenly an alarm jolted me out of my dreams
I breathe deep and my lips curved up
Reality became you.

I finally let go of that ledge I had been holding onto for so long
Driving down the road as fast as possible
Your name echoes in my mind bouncing off of brain waves and currents
Two hands lace together.

Beat beat-beat
The hum of the car fills both of our souls
Knowing our moments will keep me alive
Just like the sun heats the earth
Your my sun.

RUNNING TO NOWHERE

This is the final copy of my play the name of it is Running to Nowhere.

Setting- Starts off in an apartment in New York City, NY, then goes to an apartment in South Central, CA, after that it is in an abandoned warehouse in South Central, CA. Characters- Zaria (mother) 39, she lives with Natasha (daughter) 18, and Tanya (Zaria’s friend) 39, George (Zaria’s Ex-Boyfriend) 47. Conflict- Zaria’s ex boyfriend George comes back to haunt her. Natasha and Zaria are now moving to South Central because Zaria’s ex-boyfriend George was beating her.
NATASHA
I cannot stand you Mother! MOVING?! To South Central, California of all places where people are shot on the streets? Are you seriously kidding me all my friends are here and this is my last year of high school.
ZARIA
Honey, calm down and think about it the sooner we get away from George the better. He beat me with a wrench just when I mentioned that I didn’t want to see him anymore. So I think that moving to South Central, California is good for us because my old friend Tanya from high school lives close and is going to help keep both of us safe.
NATASHA
Mother how many times do I have to tell you, that you get into abusive relationships because you need men to always be there for you. News flash nobody needs men like you do; you are just pathetic.
ZARIA
Natasha! Don’t ever speak like that to me again. Now we are moving whether you like it or not. So pack your things and get into the truck we are leaving in an hour because George gets off work soon.
NATASHA
Fine I’ll go but on one condition, no more men at all. You cannot do this to me ever again because I cannot keep moving just because you need to.
ZARIA
That sounds reasonable and I’ll think about it. Natasha I love you, you know this right?
NATASHA
Yeah….Whatever. (Slams the door)
(An hour later in the truck driving from New York City, NY to South Central, California)
ZARIA
Well I guess you are never going to speak to me again since you’re not talking at all.
NATASHA
You know what I never got to say goodbye to my friends or even say goodbye to my teachers at school. On top of it all I’m tired and I’m moving to the fricken scariest place of California. So, no mother, I really do not want to speak to you right now.
ZARIA
(Sighs and keeps staring ahead while driving)
You know I’m not here to ruin your life but to keep you safe. That’s just what I’m doing by taking us to South Central. It will be a new start for the both of us… you’ll see.
(12 Hours later…)
NATASHA
I’m going to sleep so make sure that you don’t bug me. This is a nightmare so I’m going to wake up and be in my bed in New York. Where my friends are and where home exists.
(Yawns and falls asleep in the passenger seat)
ZARIA
(Whispering) Natasha everything will work out I promise. I just need to stay positive and remember why I’m throwing away my career and my life in New York City for South Central, California. George was a monster and if I wouldn’t have had us move now I’m afraid that he could have hurt you too. I could never live with myself Natasha if anything ever happened to you. You are my life, and I’m going to prove to you that our moving here is best for the both of us. (Brushes Natasha’s hair back and then keeps driving without looking back)
(Traffic is honking and sirens are sounding. Loud music starts blasting from a car next to the truck. Natasha is startled awake by the loud roar of South Central)
NATASHA
Jeesh look at all these scary people… Not even in New York did I ever see this many criminals in one area.
ZARIA
We are not even at the apartment yet and you’re still being judgmental. Just stop and consider the benefits of living here because it’s a new place and that means you can be whoever you want to be and no one would ever know your past.
NATASHA
Oh you are talking to me? I wasn’t really listening considering that the guy across the street is selling drugs. Well great choice of living arrangements mom, I mean this really takes the gold.
ZARIA
Shut up Natasha this is really getting on my nerves that you cannot be at least reasonable about this.
(Natasha rolls her eyes and slumps down in her seat)
ZARIA
See we’re here I told you that this place is going to be great! Natasha go get the suitcases in the back of the truck while I talk to the landlord of the building. Here are the keys; it’s apartment 3B on the second floor.
NATASHA
(Mumbling as she looks around at the ratty old apartment. There’s an old lady that comes in the hallway that screams, “You’re the devil!” Slams the door of her apartment and then you hear the loud rap music of the car outside. The walls are all chipped and graffiti lines the entire hallway. Once Natasha reaches 3B she opens the door slowly with disgust.)
NATASHA
Look at this place… It is the absolute filthiest hole to live in. (Throws the suitcases and slides down the door. She cradles her head in her hands.) I want my life to go back to the way it was before mom met George. The both of us were happy, sane, and lived in New York City.
ZARIA
(Enters the apartment) Natasha isn’t this place fantastic? It’s just what we need for our new start.
NATASHA
Whatever I give in, this place is fine I guess so why don’t we just stop arguing so I can go call my friends back home.
ZARIA
Go ahead I’ll unpack and we can maybe go out for dinner.
NATASHA
(Leaves the room and slams the door of her new room. The ceiling tiles fall and the doorknob falls off.)
(The next day starts out as Natasha attending her first day at McKinley High School.)
ZARIA
Here are your books and your lunch. Don’t forget that the principal will show you around when you get there… I love you.
NATASHA
Yes mom I won’t forget and I love you too so stop worrying. (Kisses her mother’s cheek and runs out the door.)
(The telephone rings...)
TANYA
Zaria! Hello! How have you been? I’ve been worried sick about you because you haven’t called me since you told me you’re moving here and to tell me the number of the phone.
ZARIA
I’m doing alright… I’m holding up a little better than I thought, but Natasha isn’t. I feel like maybe I did make a mistake by leaving George. I mean he wasn’t that bad until he was drinking…
TANYA
Zaria you did the right thing and you know it. George almost killed you the night he beat you with a wrench, and he threatened to beat Natasha too. Look on the bright side, George does not know anything about where you are and you’re safe.
ZARIA
Your right I should stop worrying and start my new abusive free life. (The phone beeps) Hold on Tanya I have another call on the other line…(Presses button) Hello?
GEORGE
Well hello Zaria, moving to South Central huh? Nice place you have there with the falling ceiling tiles and the rats under the sink. Thought you’d get away from me?
ZARIA
(Is so shocked she drops the coffee she had been making and stares straight ahead.)
GEORGE
You never could make good coffee, I watched you put too much sugar in it this time.
ZARIA
(Looking around the apartment slowly opening every door…) How did you get this number?
GEORGE
I know everything, where you are, and where Natasha is right this second. I have private investigators Zaria; money can go a long way.
ZARIA
I don’t want you George! Do you hear me? Stay away from Natasha, and leave us alone. If you don’t I’ll tell the police that New York Cities’ best lawyer George Brady beats his girlfriend and is a lousy drunk.
GEORGE
(Laughs) You will never escape me Zaria, and I told you not to ever leave me but you disobeyed me. That means consequences… As for your little extortion plan no one will believe you because of your sudden shady past with drugs.
ZARIA
I’m calling the police right now George!
GEORGE
You do and Natasha will die. Make your choice and I’ll be seeing you real soon. ( The phone is dead on the other line and the dial tone starts sounding.)
(Zaria switches back over to Tanya who is still on the other line.)
ZARIA
(In a weak voice) Tanya…George is after me and I need you to do something right now. Get Natasha from her school and bring her to the address I gave you when I said if anything went wrong we would go there. Go quick and don’t talk to anyone. I’m going to go there right now and I’ll figure the rest of my plan out when I get there.
TANYA
No questions asked Zaria. I’m going right now... (Hangs up the phone.)
(Zaria hangs up the phone and bursts into tears. She whispers, “Not again.” Then she packs up her stuff quickly and gets into the truck. She drives towards her safe location which is an abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of South Central.)
ZARIA
( Zaria opens the door of the warehouse and yells, “Natasha! Where are you?” The door of the warehouse is suddenly slammed shut and all goes black.)
GEORGE
(Turns on the florescent lights and they blink on to show Natasha and Tanya tied up on the floor. They are doused in gas and George is smoking a cigarette.)You finally got here; it took you long enough. Now that I think about it, you were never really worth waiting for. You’re just a stupid whore who couldn’t obey my commands. None of this would have ever happened if it wasn’t for you. Payback is a b***h isn’t it?
ZARIA
NO! Let them go it’s me that you want to make pay, George. We can talk about this and work it all out; I promise. We can even go back to New York if that’s what makes you happy, just let my friend and Natasha free.
GEORGE
It’s too late for negotiations and it makes me happy to see you squirm. (As he is talking, Zaria and George are circling each other. Zaria feels her pocket knife in her pocket and grips it tightly.) Too bad that Natasha and Tanya have to suffer because of you. You’re never going to get the chance to make it up to me because you did the one unforgivable thing… And that was leaving me. So say goodbye to the people you love. (George moves to drop the cigarette, but Zaria lunges at him with the pocket knife. The pocket knife slashes open Georges wrist and provides just enough distraction for Zaria to push him towards the balcony of the warehouse.)
ZARIA
Don’t you ever mess with me or my family! (Zaria pushes George with all her might and he falls off the balcony screaming and lands without moving.)
ZARIA
(Runs over to where Tanya and Natasha are tightly bound and unties them. Natasha and Tanya both rip off the duct tape that was attached to their mouths.) Are two okay? I’m so sorry all of this is my fault entirely. George came after both of you because of me. Natasha it is okay honey I’m here and he’s gone. (Grabs Natasha and they both start crying.)
NATASHA
Mom I was so scared, he just grabbed us in the alleyway and the next thing we knew we’re tied to each other and drowned in gasoline.
TANYA
Zaria where is George now? Are you sure he’s not moving after you pushed him?
ZARIA
I’m positive he fell about 50 feet and the floor was concrete. When I pushed him I pushed with all my might so he has to be gone. Thank God, it is all over now.
TANYA
Look over there it’s George’s phone that he dropped we should call the police right now. (Walks over to grab the cell phone off of the floor then quickly dials 911.) Please we need your help right now; we’ve been kidnapped and doused in gas. The guy who did this is George Brady and he was beating my friend Zaria. We aren’t in immediate danger but we aren’t sure if he is incapacitated or not. Come to the abandoned warehouse at 56th street just off of Kline. (Hangs up and tightly hugs the crying Zaria and Natasha.)
(Sirens start sounding and they hear the police kicking open the door and shouting, “Police!” Natasha, Zaria, and Tanya move to the balcony to see the police put away their guns. All three look down to see a pool of blood where George was.)
POLICEMAN
Ladies we searched everywhere inside and outside this building and there is no sign of this George Brady. We’re putting out a warrant for his arrest; my guess is he won’t get far with those wounds.
ZARIA
Yes, thank you officer. (Officer walks away) (Zaria, Tanya, and Natasha are all sitting in the cop car waiting for their rides home and are talking privately) Tanya I never knew George was capable of hurting all of you like that. Yes he hurt me but… I never expected him to go homicidal. I’m so sorry…
TANYA
The only thing you should be sorry about is that you didn’t kill that monster when you shoved him off that balcony. He is sick in the head and free on the streets right now. Natasha, are you okay?
NATASHA
No, I mean this freak is now messing with all of us. Who knows what he’ll do next?
ZARIA
I don’t know, but what I do know is that one day he’ll come back and when he does I’ll be ready.
POLICEMAN
(Gets in the police cruiser and starts the car. They all drive down the street with Natasha hugging her mother in the back seat and Tanya looking out her window...)

I changed around the ending a bit. The mother's ex boyfriend comes back to haunt her... I'm still revising the fight scene. Suggestions are welcome :)

NEW VERSION
Setting- The city is South Central, California; in a small apartment near the city of Los Angeles, California. Characters- Zaria (mother) 39, she lives with Natasha (daughter) 18, and Natasha’s friend Valerie who is also 18. Conflict- Natasha and Valerie had just become friends at school in McKinley Avenue High School. Natasha had just moved there with her mother, Zaria, because her mother was beaten by her last boyfriend so they had to leave New York City.

(The phone beeps) Hold on Tanya I have another call on the other line…(presses the talk button) Hello?
If you don’t I’ll tell the police that New York Cities’ best lawyer George Brady beats his girlfriends and is a lousy drunk.
GEORGE
(Laughs) You will never escape me Zaria, and I told you not to ever leave me but you disobeyed me. That means consequences… As for your little extortion plan no one will believe you because of you shady past with drugs.
Now that I think about it you were never really worth waiting for. You’re just a stupid whore who couldn’t obey my commands. Now you are gunna pay.
ZARIA
NO! Let them go it’s me that you want to make pay, George. We can talk about this and work it all out I promise.
TANYA
Look over there is George’s phone we should call the police right now. (Walks over to grab the cell phone off of the floor then quickly dials 911.) Please we need your help right now, we’ve been kidnapped and doused in gas.
